Since this item was released by the press and media i have had positive and supportive feeback. I have also met with the Chief Executive of NHS 24 and the Chief Operating Officer of NHS Tayside who have apologised for the failings in the system as it stands now.NHS 24 are in the process of hiring Mental Health nurses to deal with calls as they come into the service from mental health patients and NHS Tayside are in the process of reviewing their own procedures in light of this case.I think that both parties agreed that the safety nets available to patients are not been communicated properly to the people who need the information most.I have been in the mental health system since 1992 and have been sectioned twice in the UK and once in the US having tried to take my own life on 3 seperate occasions yet i nor my family new what and advance statement, named person, independent advocate or relapse signature were.I have now completed my relapse signature which is basically a one page document which outlines my stressors to indicate that i may be having a relapse and what to do to avoid this. This document has been added to my special notes by my GP and forwarded to NHS 24 so that if i do have to phone up in the future they will at least know what signs to look for to indicate a relapse maybe about to occur.I realise that my case will be one of many but i hope it has gone some way to maybe getting the health service to realise that mental health patients have to be listened to when they fear they are becoming unwell as nobody knows oneself better than oneself!
